3rd Annual Alumni Reunion

On Friday, the 15th of January, over 200 alumni celebrated together, to take part in the Williamsburg Charter High School Third Annual Alumni Reunion. The theme for the event, "Celebrating 12 Years of Success," became a reality with the extensive and dedicated support of the WCHS Faculty.

The team is recognized as Nector Santiago, Mariella Mercado, Julia Hernandez, Rosa Yenque, Tamisha Johnson, Samir Ibrahim, Angie Helliger, Amaryllis Valentin, Kathy Gaffney, Darnell Pierre, SO Fynes, SO Cruz, SO Tamara, and SO Shawn. This team along with the help of seven students did an astounding job at their designated tasks in making this event a welcoming accomplishment. As the alumni checked in at the sign-in table, they were first asked to inscribe a heartfelt message Alumni banner before stopping by the following set-up booths:

  • Survey Table – WCHS Alumni were given survey form to fill out on any updated credentials.
  • Yearbook Table – Yearbooks from the last twelve years were displayed for Alumnus to flip through at a glimpse of pictures from their high school career.
  • Memorial Table – A memoriam of WCHS Alumni that have passed on was displayed with a message inscribed that these students would never be forgotten.
  • Committee Table – This table was available for any WCHS Alumnus interested in partaking in the Alumni Association Committee, to sign up.

Samir Ibrahim and Angie Helliger, who both are WCHS Alumni, hosted the event along with speakers Kathy Gaffney and Nector Santiago. Mr. Ibrahim’s energetic enthusiasm had the alumni energized when he recognized each graduating class. Ms. Gaffney, who was that next speaker, praised the positive development of the Alumni Association and Committee. Ms. Helliger gave a moment of silence for the Alumni who have passed and introduce Mr. Santiago, who expressed his sincere gratitude to all who carried out the success of the event. Ms. Johnson, the Masters of Ceremonies, went around collecting the table cards that read, “You know if you a charter student if …”

Throughout the remainder of the evening, current WCHS students continued collecting surveys while the alumni reunited with their classmates and reminisced their high school years taking pictures, and danced the night away with the music of DJ Carlyle James Moore.

  • Also in attendance were current staff members Ms. Wade, Mr. Hernandez, Mr. Failla, Mr. Heyman & Mr. Fier as well as formal staff members Mr. Tulley, Ms. Gonzalez, Ms. Williams, Mr. Martin, Ms. Harewood & Mr. Brown.
  • Total of 86 completed surveys by WCHS Alumni.
  • Total of 20 entries interested in the Alumni Association Committee.

An Ambassador's Visit

Christine Gutierrez, WCHS Class of 2012, currently visited WCHS as a Student Ambassador for Binghamton University. Student ambassadors are volunteers who are proud of the University and want to help others learn more about Binghamton from a current student's perspective. Christine will graduate in 2016 with a B.S. in Nursing. In addition to her rigorous course load, and various volunteer responsibilities. She is the resident assistant for Mountainview College Hunter Hall.
